The Art of Facilitation

The most current knowledge on team facilitation to date--taught and practiced over a wide variety of team contexts. Published in The Annual 2000 for Facilitators, this unique model systematizes the ephemeral art of facilitation into a real-life, practical process.

This two- or three-day experiential course will enable participants to lead, facilitate and train in a team environment.  The program is especially beneficial to CQI coaches, leaders of process improvement teams, redesign teams or work groups involved in developing and implementing change.  Paired team leaders and facilitators study real team case examples and draft an agenda to lead a mock team meeting.  Participants assume different roles in the team--actors who exhibit dysfunctional behaviors simulating a scenario requiring assessment and intervention.

In this two-day session, participants will:

  1. Facilitate a PI Team, an innovation team, an angry group of doctors and a community health coalition.
  2. Assess a team's functioning and intervene to adjust processes in a healthy direction.
  3. Exercise 20 different types of intervention in the context of different types of teams.
  4. Give and receive feedback, with teams and individuals.
  5. Support a team's management of conflict.
  6. Support the team leader in the performance of their role, including the use of contracting to clarify each others' duties.
  7. Speak the language of facilitation and perform the many roles of the facilitator.
  8. Teach tools in a just-in-time manner.

Enjoyed format of exercise...Liked practice with interventions...

I am much more comfortable with my role as a future facilitator. I now have a reference guide and I can now trust my intuition and know that I am probably right.

Enjoyed role-playing and practice of interventions. Very comfortable environment for learning.

Good class! I like the way the case scenarios relate to current issues.
